Wow. No this isn’t a piece of Jean-Pierre Jeunet set design, but in fact a very real hotel in Amsterdam.

Coast Modern Poster

Loving the above soon to be released limited edition poster, by the ever brilliant Build. Created for Coast Modern, a movie about the American West Coast’s Modernist architecture.

Redevelopment of Highbury Stadium

Just stumbled across the above images detailing the redevelopment of the Gooners old stadium, Highbury. Interesting I think in that my presumption at least, was that unwanted, and dated stadiums get raised.

So in this instance and probably due to the fact The old East Stand is a listed building, the developers have certainly retained a lot from the plots past.

Just wonder whether anybody who is not a Gooners supporter will actually live there?

I came across this rather interesting project, by inhabitant of my soon to be new home town, Malmö.  Simply, he has created a very nice living room, underneath one of Malmö’s piers. Click here to see the video.

Lego Architecture

Lego for grown ups, cool. First off Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim, and Falling Waters. Nice.

Technorama Facade

In 2002, Ned Kahn worked with the staff of Technorama, the major science center in Switzerland, and their architects, Durig and Rami, to create a facade for the building which is composed of thousands of aluminum panels that move in the air currents and reveal the complex patterns of turbulence in the wind.

Lights On

Peter Saville for Kvadrat

Been seeing a lot of mentions about design legend Peter Saville recently, infact I posted the Bicycle Aware tvc last week. And above is some new stuff (using an old classic in the case of the promotional video) for Danish textile giants Kvadrat, the creators of the excellent cloud room system I also posted earlier.

Over the last 5 years he has been developing and changing the Kvadrat graphic identity, finishing the process by collaborating with architect David Adjaye, and designing the new London showroom (above).

Sliding House

London architects dRMM have designed a house with mobile walls and roof that can be moved to cover and uncover parts of the dwelling. The house, in Suffolk, England, features a sliding structure that fits over the static main house, guest annexe and greenhouse. The mobile element, which is 28 metres long and weighs 50 tons, move along rails set into the ground. As it moves, the sliding element creates shifting outdoor living areas between the static elements as well as altering views, lighting conditions and the sense of enclosure inside the house.”

On first impressions I presumed this was merely a piece of science fiction, but how wrong I was, it is the new China Central Television HQ in Bejing. Click here to have a closer look.

Jørn Utzon

Sadly the visionary architect that designed the beautiful Sydney Opera House passed away last Saturday (29.11.08). Here is a really nice video from the Guardian, as Australia pays tribute. Having had the pleasure of seeing one of the most beautiful and iconic buildings, practically everyday for four years, when I was living down there, and now that I am living in the homeland of the man that gave us it, I felt I should give some kind of mention, and think that the video is a simple touching piece.
