I know I am very late with the posting of this great little film, but hey, if you have seen it before admire once more, if you haven’t your in for a treat.
Another post about Augmented Reality, and further proof 2010 is looking like we are going to see much much of it. This time Adidas are releasing a pack of 5 trainers, each with a unique AR code on the tongue, with which the new owner can use the shoe as a joystick in it’s related online AR experience.
I came across this delightful promotional website for an album release. Nice simple, but clever use of streaming. Click here and have play with the fullscreen options.
A short while I was pleasantly surprised to find Facebook has an inhouse design team, and one with some considerable talent and enviable creative briefs, and proven with the above right up my street graphic niceness.
Here is a brief description behind the wish I had the opportunity to do stuff like this, project:
As a gift to its top advertising clients, Facebook typically gives money to donate to a charity of their choice, along with a special item like last year’s reusable shopping bag. This year they decided to do an art poster and the in-house Communication Design Team got to work. Seriously got to work. The result is a 19 × 19-inch-square poster that is printed, embossed and foiled with a delicate, intricate and obsessive design that has the signature typographic and illustrative style of Ben Barry, a designer at Facebook — and if you’ve been following his cryptic photo status updates on Facebook you finally have closure on what he was working on all this time.
To encourage the donation aspect of the gift, the poster comes with a silkscreened, wooden token that is then customized on the back with a unique code for redeeming the donation. But the token doesn’t just lay there, no, it comes nested in a pretty little flower-like pod that holds it in place. And even opening the poster requires paying attention to the custom printed packing tape and the lovely rubber stamp that has been stamped by hand.
There are also two different Thank You cards printed in 1-color offset and clear foil stamp.
Absolut has funded a short film by the excellent Spike Jonze, shown at the currently running Sundance Film Festival. Running at 30 minutes it is the story of two robots living in Los Angeles.
I look forward to being able to see the film in its entirety, sometime soon.
As Mr Bingo himself says “Ok, so we all know Haiti is pretty fucked at the moment”.
So the talented chap has decided to do his part and help out by printing a limited number of the above illustrative niceness.
Demand was such yesterday they sold out raising a nice £680, so with the help of some nice UK printer types who are now reprinting for free he has done a more are available, all money going to UNICEF’s Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal His sales pitch is worthy of another quote, so here it is…
“Friendly humans of this planet we live on, I urge you to please put your hands into your pockets and purchase one, or two (or ten?) of these beautiful Mr Bingo hand silkscreened signed prints”.
As I type, Mr Bingo twitters that he is now through the £1000 mark. Go on you know you want to… here.
Last week I posted about the extremely talented Johanna Basford’s, 24 hour twit/sketch-a-thon.
Today she has very kindly posted the finished item on flickr, enabling her, with the participants help, to ‘tag’ and document all of us that contributed by giving her something to draw. Click here to see the full thing and see if you can spot my own, ‘scuba S’.
Next up one of a limited 100 screen prints should hopefully be popping through my letter box very soon.
Once again a big thanks to Johanna, if you don’t about her already, get on over to her homepage and check out her black ink delicious-ness.
Twitter had the pleasure of enlightening me with the knowledge that these beautiful little creatures are not in fact a clever piece of photoshop work, but do really exist and can be found in the jungles of Central America. Ladies and gents I introduce to you, the Glasswing Butterfly.
Just came across this great little store which sells everything you need, but encourages you to bring and use your own bags, boxes and containers to take your bought goodies home.
I would love to see more of this kind of store here in Malmö and across the bridge in Copenhagen.
I will be paying a visit when I visit North London in a couple of weeks time.
I am a sucker for simple, vintage looking t’s, so I am very happy to have discovered these guys. CXXVI, straight of New York, each one numbered, and some very nice graphic styles, particularly liking the 13 star in red. If you too like this kind of stuff, a long time favourite since living in Australia has been Melbourne brand Flux.
